On 11th July 2020, Stephen Friend ran around his local cricket field to a distance of 7.1km, which was 3km further than his intended distance, raising over £260 for us. He literally went the extra mile!
Stephen is an inspirational member of the community as cricket coach at Over Cricket Club, Cambridge. He wished to arrange the sponsored run to help those that are struggling with their mental health. Stephen explained, “Due to the Pandemic – I cannot run the youth cricket teams (which would have been u10, u12 & u15 this year) or play village cricket on a Saturday, so I am missing my time on Over Green. I have been think about doing something for your mental health charity for quite a few weeks.”
Thank you so much for your efforts Stephen! We wish you all the best in getting the new season of coaching back up and running and for your incredible endeavour for CPSL Mind.
Catherine Keating, Community Fundraiser for CPSL Mind said, “The Covid-19 pandemic is affecting people’s mental wellbeing in many different ways and, in response to increased levels of anxiety, isolation and loneliness, we at CPSL Mind have adapted our existing services – and developed new ones.”
“In particular, we have been working in partnership with Lifecraft and numerous other voluntary organisations across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough to extend the hours of the Lifeline helpline. This helpline provides a listening ear for people who are struggling with their wellbeing during these challenging times, supports them to create wellbeing/safety plans and connects them directly to any specialist help they might need around such issues as bereavement, employment, debt, domestic abuse and substance misuse.”
“Stephen’s donations will help support this vital work along with other services such as our Sanctuary, which provides out of hours support to people in mental health crisis. With demand for our services remaining high we are extremely grateful to Stephen.”
