Orchard Road in Histon held a fantastic street party for Mental Health Awareness Week and raised an impressive £265.
The Street party was held on Saturday 23rd May and was a great success. From 6.30pm – 11pm, DJ Funky played a variety of music to suit all ages and residents danced all night, ensuring they followed the 2 metre social distancing rule.
Community spirit flourished with families either having a BBQ in their front garden or buffet food shared within the community of Orchard Road. Even though the evening got a little chilly, everyone carried on dancing to keep warm and their spirits high.
This event was organised by Jean Clery, who works for CPSL Mind, and it was a joint venture to raise awareness of mental health, supporting CPSL Mind by donating cash, and to also donate food to the local Salvation Army to support families in need.
Jean Clery said, “The evening was a wonderful success and it was one of those nights you did not want to end. The whole community got together to have fun and to support those who are most in need during this pandemic. We are thrilled to have raised £265 for CPSL Mind and we hope it will help those who are struggling with their mental health during this time.
Catherine Keating, Community Fundraiser for CPSL Mind said, “The Covid-19 pandemic is affecting people’s mental wellbeing in many different ways and, in response to increased levels of anxiety, isolation and loneliness, we have adapted our existing services – and developed new ones.
In particular, we have been working in partnership with Lifecraft and other voluntary organisations to extend the hours of the community helpline – Lifeline. This helpline provides a listening ear for people who are struggling with their wellbeing during these challenging times by simply calling 0808 808 2121. It is available between 9am and 11pm Monday-Friday and 2pm and 11pm on weekends and Bank Holidays.
With demand for our services remaining high we are extremely grateful to Jean and everyone in her street for raising awareness and funding for our services – a huge thank to everyone involved.”
