Finding out that someone we know is self-harming can be distressing. There are some misunderstandings about self-harm and how best to respond to it. This course will bust some myths that we can hold and identify helpful ways we can respond and provide support to someone who is suffering.

By the end of the course you’ll be able to
- be aware of the continuum of self-harming behaviours
- understand what forms self-harm can take and reasons why people self-harm
- understand the difference between attention-seeking and connection-seeking behaviour
- know how to respond appropriately to someone disclosing self-harm
- understand how to provide long-term support to someone who regularly self-harms
- know sources of support.

As well as providing information to develop your awareness of mental health challenges such as stress and low mood, this course will enable you to build trust with people on calls and provide you with some techniques that can empower those who you are supporting to prioritise their own wellbeing.
