Local Mind Charities Get Ready for Action

Local Mind mental health charities, including us, are gearing up for the ‘Minds in Action’ fundraising challenge, which begins on 23rd July 2021, fronted by Olympic Gold Medallist, Dani Rowe MBE.

Local Mind mental health charities, including us, are gearing up for the ‘Minds in Action’ fundraising challenge, which begins on 23rd July 2021, fronted by Olympic Gold Medallist, Dani Rowe MBE.

The virtual team-based challenge is powered by Rutland Cycling and hosted on the GoJoe app which will enable users to measure their activity as part of their local Mind team. Participants of ‘Minds in Action’ will be encouraged to walk, run, cycle or swim, alongside the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, between 23rd July and 6th August 2021 to raise money to support mental health in the local community.

In Cambridgeshire, we have our very own Sarah Bailey (aka the Gym Medic) as our Captain. Sarah is a NHS doctor specializing in sports injury and a mental health advocate. She set up ‘The Gym Medic’ which is an online initiative to help educate and advise people on illness and injury, there are blogs, vlogs, social media pages. You can join Sarah as part of team CPSL Mind to earn points through your physical activity and help the charity top the leaderboard ahead of the other participating local Minds – Northamptonshire Mind, Nottinghamshire Mind and Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes (BLMK) Mind.

Catherine Keating, our Community Fundraiser said, “We are so excited about the event and it has been a year in the making. We are challenging other local Minds and Rutland Cycling in this inter country event and have worked with our incredible corporate fundraiser Rutland Cycling and the team at GoJoe App to make it happen. We would like to encourage people to get active over the period of the Olympics as the Covid-19 pandemic is affecting people’s mental wellbeing in many different ways. We know that keeping active is good for people’s wellbeing. We wanted to get people involved, fundraising to help our services and give them an inclusive and fun challenge that you can enter alone or with others.”
